Common Problems a
Amphibian Can Experience

Our team hosts specific expertise in amphibian care. We’re committed to empowering the pet parents of the amazing amphibian family with knowledge regarding their care, diet and environmental needs.

Earth

Amphibians are incredibly sensitive to their environments. The quality of their water, diet, tank and overly frequent handling can all impact their wellbeing. Hygiene and sanitation is imperative for amphibian pet parents.

Ruler

Excess body weight can pose a problem for our amphibian pets in a very similar way that it can for humans. Obesity can put unnecessary strain on their organs and joints. Our team can guide you on the best dietary plan for your pet.

Size

Keeping too many amphibians in one tank can cause our pet(s) to become distressed or unwell. It can even cause them to stop eating completely. Our team can advise you on the optimal environment for your amphibian pet.

An Amphibian’s Diet

Most land amphibians will feed on invertebrates (typically worms and flies). Some aquatic amphibians will eat fish and bugs. The Brazilian Tree Frog is the only known amphibian to be vegetarian! If you have any queries regarding your pet’s diet, our amphibian veterinarian team can advise you on your species’ diet specifically.

Pill

Vitamin and mineral supplements are advisable for nearly every amphibian pet parent. This is usually calcium and vitamin D3. Our team can advise you on what supplements would benefit your pet to prevent nutritional deficiencies.

Bug

Most amphibian pets require live feed. Some species require specific live feed. For instance, the Treefrog only eats climbing or flying insects. Check in with our amphibian vet expert team if you need clarity on what your amphibian requires.

Amphibian Vet Expert Help & Advice

We’re the UK’s only online veterinary service exclusive to exotic pets, including amphibians. No matter where you’re located, our expert team can offer you appropriate support via video call or the telephone.

It’s not advised to keep more than one species of amphibian (or reptile) together. There are many dietary and environmental differences between amphibians and their needs vary too greatly. We can advise you on the optimal environment for your amphibian.
Most amphibians don’t need to hibernate in order to live well. However, if they are reproducing they may need a quieter, dormant period. Our team can advise you on your reproducing amphibian’s needs.
Amphibians have incredibly sensitive skin. The salts and oils naturally produced by human skin can sometimes harm an amphibian’s, as can soaps and lotions. Frequent handling isn’t advised unless necessary. If you want to know more about handling, specifically regarding your pet, contact our team.
