Let Us Help You Care
For Your Bird

Birds are highly-intelligent and make affectionate, life-long pets. Our team is dedicated to supporting all bird pet parents in their understanding and care of their feathered family members. We can advise you on any health concerns you may have, their behaviour, cage setup, diet and appropriate enrichment.

Common Problems a
Exotic Bird Can Experience

As bird vet experts, we’re very knowledgeable in the common problems and conditions a bird can encounter during their life. Birds do their best to hide signs of illness as their lives depend on this in the wild. As pet parents, it’s important to know what to look out for.

Doc

If a bird is stressed or unwell, their feather quality may decrease, they may sneeze, shake their head, itch, and/or refuse food.

Ruler

If a bird is feeling extremely unwell, they may lose weight, breathe heavily, sit at the bottom of their cage, or bob their tail repeatedly.

Feather

If a bird isn’t entertained or stimulated, they may destroy their own feathers. This is known as feather destructive behaviour (FBD).

A Bird's Diet

Your bird’s optimal diet will depend on their specific species, size and age. However, providing a well-balanced diet can be extremely difficult. They can often be too rich in fats and sugars. Many breeds can be susceptible to obesity, particularly if fed an all-seed diet. If you have any queries regarding your pet’s diet, our avian vet expert team can advise you on your bird’s diet specifically.

Scaless

Birds need a well-balanced diet and many commercial pellet foods can provide all the nutrients they need.

Fresh, clean water should always be easily available to your bird. Their water bowl should be washed out and replaced every day.

Drop

Calcium supplements are advised for specific breeds like the African Grey Parrot and the Toucan.

If birds are fed an all-seed diet and aren’t getting enough exercise, they can easily become overweight. This is bad for their health. If you think your bird is overweight, you should always consult with an avian vet expert before starting them on a new diet or exercise program. Consult with our team today.
Birds exhibit dancing behaviour for various reasons: to attract a mate, to entertain themselves, to mimic you, or to be rewarded. It’s usually a sign of happiness or energetic expression! However, if your bird is excessively bobbing their tail and tail alone, this could indicate a health issue.
